Thank you for spending a few minutes with me on our web site.  First Baptist is delighted to share its ministry with you through this media, and I'm particularly excited you've chosed to examine my page.  I hope you find something of interest or possibly of help while you are here.  If I or the staff of FBC can be of assistance to you in any way, we would be delighted for the opportunity.  Please share your thoughts and prayer request with us, and we will stand in the GAP with you in whatever ways you request.  Truly this is a day of modern miracles such as email, networking, and multitudes of new venues to communicate and share the Good News.  Thank you again for dropping by.  I trust I will hear from you and be in communication with you soon.

Victoriously HIS,

Monday

Read.... Colossians 1:15-20

As we think of the awesomeness of the Lord I want you to consider a few things with me this week.  I was reading some reports about men in history and how they rose to the pinnacle of power and success only to fail in the end.  One such person was Charles Schwab.  In 1923, he was the President of the largest stell company in America.  Eighty-three years later he died a pauper.  What happened?  Could it be that he majored on things of this world and missed out on the peace of God?  The bottom line is, if we miss Jesus we miss the most important thing in this world.  It's not so much how you live your life as how you finish the race.

Tuesday

Read....  1 Peter 3:10-12

Sticking with the theme for this week, I was reading about another man that was the President of the largest gas company in America back in 1923.  His name was Edward Hopson.  He obviously knew a lot about business and led his company to great success.  The only problem with this kind of success, is if you can't or don't enjoy it what have you accomplished.  Edward Hopson lost his mind and ended life insane.  We need to count the cost of what we are doing and be sure we are traveling down a road that leads to life, joy, peace and everlasting life.

Read....   2 Peter 1:2-3

Do you know who the president of the New York Stock Exchange was in 1923?  You probably don't, but I will tell you.  His name was Richard Whitney.  If you are like me that doesn't mean a thing to us in the now, but what I want you to see is that no matter how successful a person may become in this life, if we neglect the important things of life it is all for naught.  Mr. Whitney was released from prison so he might die at home.  All the riches of the world won't do a person a bit of good if they neglect eternal things.  Salvation is a gift and can only be obtained in and through Jesus Christ.  Are you sure Jesus is Lord of your life today?

Read....   2 Peter 3:11-18

Another interesting person was Arthur Cooger.  Arthur was considered the greatest wheat speculator in the world in 1923.  Anytime someone needed advice about wheat, Arthur was consulted and usually was right on the mark when it came to his advice.  Like so many others that reached a pinnacle of success in this life, Arthur died abroad, penniless.  Most of us need to consider the direction of our life and be sure we are following the advice of Peter in our text.  "Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace."  Good advice.

Read....  2 John 3-6

The first four days of this week's devotion have been spent talking about people who by the worlds standard were successful in life, but died a lack of luster death.  While reading all these negative acounts there was one that stodd out above all the rest.  In the same year as all the other, 1923, the PGA Champion and winnier of the US Open was GENE SARAZEN.  What became of him?  He played golf until he was 92, died in 1999 at the age of 95.  He was financially secure, at peace with his life and died seemingly a fulfilled man.  The moral; walk with the Lord and play more golf.  As you know, I'm exaggerating the facts just a little, but sometimes simple facts are worth looking at.
